George Floyds Family Considers Suing Kanye West and Candace Owens, Feeling Betrayed by the Rapper

Following his YZY fashion show in Paris earlier this month, where he paraded models wearing White Lives Matter T-shirts, West has caused one PR crisis after another. He then declared on Instagram that Black Lives Matter was finished and made a variety of anti-Semitic remarks, including that he would go death con 3 on Jewish people, which led to the suspension of his Instagram and Twitter accounts.

Over the weekend, he erroneously claimed on Revolt TVs Drink Champs that Floyds death was caused by fentanyl, citing Owens documentary that he had seen the week prior.

I saw the Candace Owens-produced George Floyd documentary, he informed N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN. One of the things that his two roommates mentioned was that they want a tall person like me, and on the day he died, he did an eight-minute prayer. They administered fentanyl to him. As you can see, the mans knee was not even on his neck in that position.

Merritt states that Ahmaud Arberys mother was the first to notify him of Wests accusations against Floyd. Wanda Cooper-Jones had previously stated to Rolling Stone her great disgust over Wests White Lives Matter stunt, particularly because it flies in the face of Wests private donation of monies to her family after her sons murder. She saw it as supporting and legitimizing extreme activity similar to the behavior that stole her sons life.

West also claimed to have made substantial contributions to Floyds family and to have established a college fund for Gianna, Floyds little daughter. Now that they see him standing alongside Owens, the Floyd family feels completely betrayed by his remarks, according to Merritt.

Its quite disheartening to see someone who has previously presented himself as an advocate and defender of the family now endorse [Owens] words and her radical ideas, he adds. This documentary was provided by a known far-right extremist with an agenda. Now, Kanye West effectively supports Derek Chauvin and other conspiracists.

Merritt adds that Wests remarks might have graver ramifications, citing the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, which is now before Congress and is supported by his family. The measure attempts to improve policing methods and create a federal database for complaints of police wrongdoing.

When influential figures such as Kanye West or Candace Owens claim that police violence was not the cause of death, but rather drugs or some other plot, it undermines their attempts to bring about reform, he argues. It setbacks us all.

Roger Floyd, Floyds uncle who is establishing a memorial foundation in North Carolina in his nephews honor, added in a statement to Rolling Stone that West is free to exercise his first amendment right regardless of how baseless and without merit his claims may be, but his family knows the truth. This case was tried and a guilty judgment was rendered, he says. Our family is pleased with that result. Justice Has Been Served
