Wanda Cooper-Jones had previously stated to Rolling Stone her great disgust over Wests White Lives Matter stunt, particularly because it flies in the face of Wests private donation of monies to her family after her sons murder. She saw it as supporting and legitimizing extreme activity similar to the behavior that stole her sons life.
West also claimed to have made substantial contributions to Floyds family and to have established a college fund for Gianna, Floyds little daughter. Now that they see him standing alongside Owens, the Floyd family feels completely betrayed by his remarks, according to Merritt.
Its quite disheartening to see someone who has previously presented himself as an advocate and defender of the family now endorse [Owens] words and her radical ideas, he adds. This documentary was provided by a known far-right extremist with an agenda. Now, Kanye West effectively supports Derek Chauvin and other conspiracists.
Merritt adds that Wests remarks might have graver ramifications, citing the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, which is now before Congress and is supported by his family. The measure attempts to improve policing methods and create a federal database for complaints of police wrongdoing.
