Tim Bigelow is a Los Angeles-based rapper who performed as Biggy Smallz.

Yahoo! states that he was referred to as white/Latino and had been using the name since 1991, while little else is known about him.

Although Christopher frequently referred to himself as Biggie Smalls, he could not legally use the moniker because it was already in use by another artist. Before the release of Ready to Die, The Notorious B.I.G. established his official name as a musician.

Save Mr. Perkins, Cruisin, and Nobody Rides For Free were among the few tunes Biggy made available to the public.

As a result of the publics confusion between their names, his album sales reportedly climbed significantly following the success of Notorious debut record.

If youre wondering how Notorious acquired the Biggie moniker, he chose to be named after a character from the 1975 Sidney Poitier film Lets Do it Again. Calvin Lockhart portrays the character of Biggie Smalls in the film.

Christopher announced himself as Biggie Smalls on his demo tape for Uptown Records, and as previous interviews demonstrate, he was not pleased to have to relinquish the moniker to another musician.

In 1994, when Funk Flex inquired about his name, he responded, On the cover, it will say the Notorious B.I.G. Because of some pathetic 14-year-old Cruisin named Biggy Smallz. He does not understand the underlying meaning, but thats okay were just trying to make some paper.
