Republican mug shot Josh Hawley was warned not to use the photo of the fist salute from January 6

According to the news outlet Politico, the Republican senator Josh Hawley must stop using the infamous image of him raising his fist to protesters at the US Capitol on January 6 on campaign swag.

The photo was taken on January 6, 2021, as Missourian Hawley entered the Capitol to certify Joe Bidens victory over Donald Trump in the electoral college.

Trumps supporters attacked the Capitol in defense of his false claim of electoral fraud, telling them to fight like hell. Hawley was one of 147 Republicans who filed objections despite the fact that the attempt to stop certification was unsuccessful.

Seven deaths were linked to the riot according to a bipartisan Senate study. Trump was exonerated.

The $20 mugs with the image and the tagline Show-Me Strong, a pun on Missouris Show-Me State moniker, were introduced by Hawleys campaign in February.

E&E News, which Politico acquired in December, took the photo. Politico claimed on Monday that it had sent a cease-and-desist letter to the Hawley campaign, informing it that legal counsel had warned it not to use the image for political fundraising.

While we wait for a response, we once more respectfully request that the campaign stop using the image without permission right away.

We havent heard from Politico or anyone else, but we are fully compliant with the law, according to a representative for Hawley. Perhaps Politico could provide a copy of the letters they wrote to the numerous lefty organizations that also used the image.

The Associated Press may use the image for editorial purposes thanks to permission from Politico.

The mug was displayed on the homepage of Hawleys website on Tuesday morning.

In February, a fundraising email stated: Liberals are so easily triggered, and this new mug is really whipping the left into a frenzy, according to E&E News.

The Huffington Post quoted Hawley as saying, It is not a pro-riot mug. I did not incite rioters in this way.

In addition, he stated that by raising his fist, he was not endorsing violence.

He explained, People were assembled peacefully to protest during the time that we were out there, and they have a right to do that. They dont have a right to attack police officers.

Hawley received harsh criticism for the act, and Simon & Schuster decided not to publish his book following the riot.

According to Hawleys account in the book The Tyranny of Big Tech, he had been labeled aseditionist and worse. My real fault, however, was to have contested the rule of the woke capitalists, just like many other people who have been assaulted by businesses and the left.

In response to an article from the Guardian, he wrote: Oh dear. Ive offended the Guardians delicate sensibilities! They didnt approve of my novel before I wrote it. Get a copy right away to own the libs.

A right-wing imprint that is marketed by Simon & Schuster published the book.

According to public financial disclosure records, Hawley apparently invested possibly tens of thousands of dollars in the very corporations he denounces, as the Guardian noted.
