Spain Eurovision 2022 Controversy: Tomorrow night marks the start of Eurovision in Turin, Italy, where the United Kingdom is hoping to break its losing streak at the venerable music contest. TikTok sensation Sam Ryder, who hopes that his song SPACEMAN will have a big impact across Europe, is proudly representing the United Kingdom. After Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra in second place, a vocalist and guitarist from the United States is widely expected to win the tournament. Regardless of who wins the final round of voting, they can expect a hearty greeting from their home countries.
Spanish entry Chanel Terrero is a Eurovision performer who is less likely to be supported by their country than other acts.
The reggaeton-influenced song ‘SlowMo,’ performed by the singer, dancer, and actress, caused quite a stir earlier this year. An alleged vote prejudice dispute regarding her nomination for Eurovision surrounded the musician, who was born in Havana, Cuba, in 1991.
RTVE’s annual Benidorm Fest song contest picked Chanel as Spain’s Eurovision entry in late January after she performed in the annual competition conducted by the state-owned network. Tanxugueiras and Rigoberta Bandini, two of the favorites, lost to the vocalist.

Tanxugueiras were hailed for their ability to sing in Galician, a language native to the area in Spain’s northwest.
One of Bandini’s most popular songs, ‘Ay Mamá,’ was termed ‘an hymn to the breast.’
Many people had doubts about the selection process and how their results were released, however, when it came time to choose Spain’s participation.
Calls for “complete openness” from Spanish broadcaster RTVE were made by Antón Gómez Reino, spokesperson for Galicia’s Podemos chapter.
“We think that a public body’s obligation is to react to the grievances of the people who do not feel represented by this decision,” he stated.
