Leverage Redemption Season 2: Release Date, Is Series Confirmed This Year!

“Leverage” is undoubtedly one of the more unexpected resurrection series to have graced our television screens in recent memory.

The original crime drama series aired on TNT for five seasons between 2008 and 2012, as we previously reported. We ended up with “Leverage: Redemption” on IMDb TV, which brought back many of the show’s original stars while also introducing several new characters to help carry on the tale a decade later.

IMDb TV waited barely two months before officially confirming its plans to press forward with a second season of “Leverage: Redemption,” which was released in two different batches of eight episodes each in July and October of 2021.

IMDb TV must be delighted with the results, and will likely push up the marketing of the resurrection to draw even more viewers to the series, despite it not being as popular as some other streaming dramas now dominating the airwaves.

Here’s all we know about “Leverage: Redemption” season 2 so far, with the second season set to begin filming soon.

Leverage Season 2 Premiere Dates and Locations

Fans can expect to watch the second season of “Leverage: Redemption” precisely where they saw the first after it supposedly received enough ratings to sustain a second season (because streamers notoriously don’t share their ratings statistics, we’re left to rely on third-party sources instead).

IMDb TV has taken over as the new home for the revived series, as well as other free streaming material.

In contrast to Amazon Prime Video, IMDb TV does not require a subscription. Simply turn it on and watch hours and hours of movies and series, with the proviso that each one contains ad breaks and interruptions.

However, no release date for the next season has been set, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have any information on what will be released and when.

In January 2022, executive producer Dean Devlin tweeted that the series would begin filming “soon” in New Orleans, where the first season followed our cast.

Devlin posted another update on production a few days later, this time teasing the new sets being erected. A cautious estimate for the second season’s completion hints to a release date in late 2022 or early 2023, however it’s uncertain whether the creative team will repeat the first season’s strategy of splitting the new episodes into two batches.

Cast and Crew

We can expect certain casting changes and shakeups as a result of the new status quo established at the end of the first season of “Leverage: Redemption,” yet the core of the team remains the same. Aleyse Shannon (Breanna Casey), Tara Cole (Jeri Ryan), the hacker known as Chaos (Wil Wheaton), and even Interpol’s Sterling will all return, with Aldis Hodge presumably getting a bigger part (Mark Sheppard).

Original creators John Rogers and Chris Downey will serve as consulting producers, along with executive producers and co-showrunners Kate Rorick and Dean Devlin.

“The ideal blend of familiarity and freshness in ‘Leverage: Redemption’ has charmed IMDb TV fans. Thank you to the devoted fans who have fought tirelessly for this series. We’re excited to continue working with Electric Entertainment and bring another season of the fan-favorite team and their daring heists to the screen.”

What We Think Season 2 of Leverage Will Be About

Beginning on the anniversary of Nathan Ford’s death (played by Timothy Hutton in the original series but wisely written out after the actor’s sexual misconduct allegations surfaced), the first season of “Leverage: Redemption” quickly brought the old guard back up to speed by reuniting at their old leader’s grave and catching up on each other’s lives since their initial parting.

By the end of the first season, Harry Wilson (Noah Wyle) had abandoned the gang of evil guys seeking vengeance on even worse people to pursue his own redemption story (though we can expect him to return in some capacity).

Parker (played by Beth Riesgraf, reprising her role from the original) entrusted the team to Sophie Devereaux, played by Gina Bellman.

Late-season hints about the return of Aldis Hodge’s Alec Hardison, who was absent for much of the first season, lead to a far bigger role in the second.

Meanwhile, the ongoing investigation into Eliot Spencer’s (Christian Kane) past before to joining the Leverage team, particularly his father’s foundational effect, would provide plenty of material for future episodes.

The team’s efforts to take down RIZ dominated the first season, but as we all know, bad men don’t stay down for long.
