His Dark Materials season 3: The makers of the popular BBC and HBO fantasy series His Dark Materials have revealed that the third and final installment of the trilogy will premiere in November 2021. Based on Phillip Pullman’s book series of the same name, His Dark Materials, actor James McAvoy stated that when the series returns, fans should anticipate “a lot of fistfights and a lot of explosions.” Here is all you need to know before the release of the third and final season of His Dark Materials.
His Dark Materials season 3 Synopsis
The next eight-part series will be based on The Amber Spyglass, the third novel in Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy, and will feature “various new realms, including the Land of the Dead,” “returning characters,” and “weird new species, the Mulefa and Gallivespians.” Will (Amir Wilson), the bearer of The Subtle Knife, and Lyra (Dafne Keen), the foretold child, will travel across numerous realms to protect and find each other in the new series.
VFX supervisor Russell Dodgson stated, during the BFI & Radio Times Television Festival, that the Mulefa monsters are similar to a huge horse with a trunk and a diamond-shaped skeleton. Adding, “It’s going smoothly. It’s a fun challenge, and we’ll probably disappoint some folks and make others very pleased.”
Fans may recall that at the end of season two, Lord Asriel (James McAvoy) called upon the angels to aid him wage war against the Kingdom of Heaven, while Mrs. Coulter (Ruth Wilson) took her daughter Lyra to’safety’ in their own realm. According to the BBC summary, “Series three begins with Lyra comatose after her mother gives her a sleeping potion, while Will, still carrying the Subtle Knife, continues his search for her.”
McAvoy hinted at upcoming action-packed battle sequences in an interview with BBC’s The One Show, via Radio Times: “What can I tell you? This is war.” He said, “At the conclusion of the second season, we declare war on the Kingdom of Heaven, so there will be a lot of fistfights, explosions, and all that sort of thing.
