Martin Freeman Controversy: It all started with a pathetic insult from Martin Freeman

Martin Freeman Controversy:  Although Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch appeared to be closest friends in Sherlock, the two actors’ real-life friendships could not have been more different.

It was four seasons of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor John Watson on television, yet many feel there would have been a fifth if the two characters had genuinely become friends off camera.

After spending six years working together, the duo apparently did not spend any time together in between filming sequences and had not built a bond throughout their time together.

As a source revealed to The Sun in January 2017, Benedict and Martin are “not friends” and “do not spend time together away from the program.”

“They are both professional and kind to one another, but there isn’t the warmth you’d expect from a couple that has worked together for six years on set. There isn’t a great deal of interest in returning for another season.”

Despite the fact that their “frosty relationship” has remained mostly hidden, it was revealed when one of them was referred to as “pathetic.”

The Office’s Freeman expressed displeasure with the overwhelming fan response to Sherlock.

“It’s like a mini-Beatles thing.” “Expectations, some of it isn’t enjoyable,” he sighed.

“It’s not something to be appreciated, it’s something to be feared. That’s not amusing. It is not to be relished.”

However, in an April 2018 interview with The Telegraph, Cumberbatch condemned his co-remarks. star’s

“I’m glad for the support, but that’s about it,” he retorted. It goes its own way. But that’s true of any franchise or company.

“It’s pitiful if that’s all it takes to avoid facing reality. Expectations? “I don’t necessarily agree.”

Fans of the BBC series may be surprised by Cumberbatch’s words, but many in the business were aware of the simmering friction between the two.

Sherlock fans speculated Martin would be Benedict’s best man when he married Sophie Hunter in February 2015.

Andrew Scott, who plays villain Moriarty, was seen at the Isle of Wight Service.

When questioned about the online initiatives to convince Freeman to be his best man, Cumberbatch made a joke about it.

Sure, they do, he answered, before adding: “I think we should let the internet communicate to Martin Freeman.”

Despite many fans’ wishes, Freeman was certain that their characters would not become lovers.

“Some people simply knew it would end with us getting together,” he told The Telegraph.

“Me and Ben have never, ever played a lover’s moment. “We ain’t lovers.”

Due to their similarity in the entertainment industry, their competition began almost immediately.

Freeman, 50, became a household name in 2001’s The Office, while Cumberbatch, 45, starred in 2013’s Fifth Estate and 2014’s The Imitation Game.

Some suspect envy, citing a 2014 interview in which Martin discussed his co-rising star’s stardom after he was nominated for an Oscar.

“[Benedict’s] ascension has been meteoric. It’s earned since he’s great “”It’s not for me,” remarked Freeman.

“But that far? No way. I like to move. My life is already full with enough craziness.”

Awkwardly, the two would later appear in The Hobbit films.

Martin played the principal character Bilbo Baggins, while Benedict handled voice and motion capture for the adversaries Smaug the dragon and Lord Sauron.
