Sam Heughan, Star of Outlander, Claims that Jamie Fraser Would Not Like Him.

During the current Droughtlander, Sam Heughan takes a break from filming season 7 of Outlander in Scotland to stop by New York Comic Con to talk about the part that made him famous: Jamie Fraser.

The irony is that Heughan believes his on-screen persona would not give him the time of day. I dont believe Jamie would like me, he continued, hinting that hes simply a dumb actor. The blockbuster novels penned by Diana Gabaldon, on which the STARZ time-travel epic romance is based, are not stupid to Heughan.

Dianas tale is great, Heughan remarked, but the historical material is extremely important to me. We were in Scotland on the show, we traveled to Versailles [season 2], and now were in America, recreating the narrative of the American Revolution, which I think is wonderful. Not many TV series have had such a broad and long-lasting impact.

Season 7 of Outlander will be based primarily on Diana Gabaldons novel An Echo in the Bone, and will place Jamie and Claire in the midst of the American Revolution, with the unfortunate circumstance that Lord John Grey (David Berry) and his stepson William (Jamies unacknowledged illegitimate son to be played by Canadian actor Charles Vandervaart) are on the British side, with William in the army and Lord John on the clandestine side of intelligence.

One of the most exciting things to play for me is Jamies connection with Willie, Heughan remarked. This is unrequited love. He cannot love and father his son, but he has discovered methods to do so. Jamies unrequited love is another aspect of his character. He badly wants to be his sons father but is unable to do it. It adds to the intrigue of the connection [between Jamie and Lord John].

Season 7, which will be 16 episodes long, will make up for the shortfall in Season 6, which was restricted to only eight episodes owing to the difficulty of shooting under COVID-19 guidelines as well as Caitriona Balfes pregnancy.
