The production of the Tokyo Revengers Season 2 anime TV series has been confirmed. When will Tokyo Revengers 2 be released? And now that voice actor Tatsuhisa Suzuki has backed out, who will play Draken?
The Tokyo Revengers Season 2 release date, according to a self-described “well-known anime blogger” on Chinese Weibo, will be July 3, 2022 (after midnight on July 2, 2022), during the Summer 2022 anime season.
This information has obviously not been verified by official sources and should be treated as a rumor. Many of the largest anime news leaks come from China, so the story can’t be fully dismissed out of hand, but it’s becoming increasingly implausible as time goes on.
The release date for Tokyo Revengers 2 had not been revealed as of late April 2022. As a result, it’s generally safe to dismiss this report given untrue, as every major anime project’s release date is usually disclosed within 6 months of its premiere.
Instead, according to Anime Geek, a release date in 2023 is more feasible (see the release date predictions section below for more details).
Tokyo Revengers: Seiya Kessen is the Japanese title for the second season. The anime sequel will be officially titled Tokyo Revengers: Christmas Showdown, according to BD/DVD distributor Pony Canyon.
Because the action takes place during Christmas, this title is most likely a reference to the manga series’ Black Dragon tale arc. Because the Christmas Showdown arc is around the same length as the Valhalla arc, Tokyo Revengers Season 2 will most likely be a single cour anime season.
You might be wondering what a “cour” is. For those unfamiliar with the term, a “cour” is a three-month period of television programming based on physical seasons of 10 to 13 episodes.
On December 18, 2021, Tokyo Revengers: Christmas Showdown was announced during the Tokyo Revengers special event Tokyo Manjikai Tachikawa Touring. With the exception of the Draken voice actor, who will be replaced, all of the primary Japanese voice actors were there.
Even before the second season was officially confirmed, anime news leakers said it was already in the early stages of development. “Tokyo Revengers TV Anime Season 2 in development,” Sugoi LITE tweeted on December 3, 2021. “# #toman anime” is a hashtag. “Tokyo Revengers Season 2 Confirmed,” SPY tweeted on December 12, 2021.
Both Sugoi LITE and SPY have a track record of generating accurate anime news leaks. This isn’t the first time that anime news leakers have predicted a second season.
A different leaker stated Tokyo Revengers 2 was already in early production in May 2021. At the time, it was easy to believe such leaks because the manga had broken records and the anime had done well. (For more information, see the release date predictions section below.)
Release date for the English dub of Tokyo Revengers
The first season of Tokyo Revengers was available with English subtitles on Crunchyroll, VRV, Amazon Prime Video (not in the United States), and Netflix Japan (not Netflix United States).
The English dub of Tokyo Revengers will be released on Crunchyroll on May 29, 2021. The following is the cast:
Takemichi Hanagaki is played by A.J. Beckles.
Manjiro “Mikey” Sano is played by Aleks Le.
Ken “Draken” Ryuguji is played by Sean Chiplock.
Spanish, Portuguese, French, and German dubs will be available for Tokyo Revengers.
Is 2023 the most likely release date for Tokyo Revengers Season 2?
As of the last update, neither Kodansha nor Studio LIDEN FILMS, nor any other entity involved in the anime’s production, had officially confirmed the release date or even the time frame for Tokyo Revengers Season 2. The production of a Tokyo Revengers: Christmas Showdown sequel, on the other hand, has been announced.
This post will be updated with the appropriate information once the news is officially confirmed.
In the meanwhile, it’s impossible to predict when Tokyo Revengers Season 2 will be released.
The cliffhanger ending is almost as startling as the fact that no formal statement was made when Episode 24 was broadcast. However, there were plenty of grounds to expect a sequel early on.
“A second season of Tokyo Revengers is already in progress,” anime news leaker ChifuyuMatsun0 said on May 18, 2021. With so little (output), LIDENFILMS discovered gold.”
Even though no leaked photographs or source verification were supplied, it was a reasonable assertion given the recent date of the manga sales numbers. “There won’t be official data so soon,” ChifuyuMatsun0 added, “but you may take it for granted.”
The announcement of an anime sequel came as no surprise, given how successful the Tokyo Revengers manga has become as a result of the anime. Around 8.5 million copies of the manga were in circulation in March 2021. The series sold 14.5 million copies a month later, in April 2021.
In May 2021, the Tokyo Revengers manga topped the Oricon sales list, selling a total of 2,702,408 copies. To put those figures in context, Jujutsu Kaisen sold 1,655,415 copies, Demon Slayer 600,366, My Hero Academia 327,318 copies, and Attack On Titan 319,081 copies in the same era.
According to the official Twitter account, the manga has sold 15 million copies by May 7, 2021, and 17 million copies a week later. The official account celebrates 20 million copies in circulation on June 3, 2021.
The official Toman account celebrated 25 million copies a month later. The milestone of 32 million copies was reached on July 21, 2021.
Here’s the Tweet by 東京卍リベンジャーズ【公式】
By mid-August 2021, the Tokyo Revengers manga has officially surpassed Attack on Titan as the best-selling Kodansha manga in a year, selling 16,532,610 copies, breaking the previous record of 15,933,801 set in 2013!
The manga had 40 million copies in circulation on September 26, 2021. Since September 2020, when there were approximately 5 million copies in circulation, the series has expanded its circulation by eight times in a single year. The manga had sold over 50 million copies by January 20, 2022.
There were additional grounds to suppose that the creators had Tokyo Revengers renewed so swiftly besides that extraordinary achievement.
